The Cowboy

This week I'm beginning work on a new series. It might be short, it could be long. I'm playing it by ear just now.

My "Cowboy," the Gawjus one, the one that proves (to me anyway) that true love exists, has asked me to write this story.

I have to be honest, and say that up until this point, I was completely CLUELESS as to how the story should go. As with many writer's, the prolific streaks, the writer's blocks, the inspiration, and the ideas are most definitely an act of  either God and or timing and most often can be attributed to both.

For now, I'm writing it under the simple working title "The Cowboy."

Let's see what happens......

When did you start writing?

A friend recently asked me when and where I got my start in writing and I actually had to think about it, because I don’t remember a time in my life, when I could actually spell that I didn’t write something.
I’ve always written poetry, songs, short stories and even started three novels in my career that never saw the light of day for one reason or another.

Now ask any writer and they will tell you that the “writing life” that Hollywood and New York glamorize, second to movies, is always less than glamorous. Any over night sensation takes at least ten years to become that. I never saw much glamour in writing ad copy or content for web sites. But there are many writers who make a very good living doing just that. And when we’re trying to get our start or foot in the door…well, we write things that we would never admit openly in public then or at any future moment. That’s just the way it goes.

Not only do we sometimes NOT get paid, there are times when it’s miniscule on an actual pay schedule, mainly to various industry standards or an influx of those who think anyone who can string two sentences together will jump into a writing career. I’m not being critical, just truthful. But I know Angela and Lloyd will back up this claim. :>)

Another question that was asked was what was the most fun I’ve ever had writing and I have to say, it was definitely freelancing in the music industry. Which is actually my very first love.

The first time I knew I was in love ( I was 7), was with a piano piece by Beethoven, quite literally. My mother will tell you that I sang as soon as I could talk. She still reminds me of how I sounded singing to the Wizard of Oz vinyl album. It’s actually kind of cute, but onward and upward.

I played music for several years and while we stopped to raise families, become stock brokers, Attorneys and graphic artists, or get "real jobs" our brothers in arms like the Gin Blossoms, Linkin Park, Southway and Michelle Branch went on to some assemblance of fame and fortune.

When I realized that the Rock N Roll industry was not going to be conducive to raising my new beautiful baby that I brought home in 1997, I needed a different vocation…I started freelance writing.. on E-lance and others…Maybe you’ve hired me once or twice at some point?

In 2000-01 I worked freelance for a then Canadian Magazine that published in the States, Canada, some parts of Asia, and Europe, called CAUSTIC TRUTHS. I penned under the name Noelle Roy

That was where I gained a special affinity for PUNK...I got to work with a lot of then budding EPITAPH records and artists, out of Tampa, Florida that pumped out classics like Sepultera, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Pennywise, Rancid.

I’ve been blessed to work with the greats like Agnostic Front, The Business, COC, Mighty Mighty Boss Tones, No Warning, and The Hated.

These articles may have not been my best writing, but they’ll always have a place in my heart and my memory…Enjoy!
